Strain Profile Notes:
We are pleased to present you with the long-awaited rebirth of the original ExSitu 1980’s real old-time C. Indica ssp. afghanica indigenous heirloom landrace cultivar Jalalabad Star ! The original Jalalabad Star genetics were collected in 1988 from Salang Pass region of Afghanistan, carefully preserved for 37 years by ExSitu and recently regenerated by Legacy Ozarks in 2025 as part of the ExSitu Landrace Biodiversity Regeneration Project.
Jalalabad Star is of a narrow leaflet drug type. True to its pure Afghani genetics it is also a highly pungent cultivar. Indoor odor concealment will require sufficient ventilation.
During the vegetative stage of this cultivar, growers should extend maturation for two months under MH/CMH 400-600W lights. During bloom, ExSitu recommends that both MH/CMH and HPS lights be utilized together. To finish the flowering stage, HPS lights are best.
When grown indoors, the average Jalalabad Star cultivar can stretch to a height of approximately 50″. Growers can expect a luscious green plant overall, yet some will be lucky enough to reveal a phenotype that displays exceedingly deep green, almost black colored leaves. The best results in growing this cultivar can be expected when allowed a full four months to mature to harvest.
The effects of Jalalabad Star will provide a special kind of stone that can be described as psychedelic, and impressively powerful. Its beautiful honey colored flowers will invoke happiness and a general sense of well being. If given enough time to show itself at 100% growers will get a very special product to try, indeed.
An Old World C. i. ssp. afghanica that came out of Afghanistan with the Soviet army in 1989, ExSitu’s Jalalabad Star is a delight for any cannabis connoisseur, and provides a genuine taste of cannabis history.
Breeders using ExSitu’s Jalalabad Star genetics in their work / production releases include Bodhi (Jalalabad Star is the mother of Bodhi’s much-loved Amrita variety), Dirty Mitten Seeds (who in 2020 came out with a full line of gear sired by Jalalabad Star including the strains Roots Of Peace, Obamalabad, Orangelabad Cookies, Gelatobad Star), El Aleph Seed Co (Salol strain)
(Note: This ExSitu genetic is not to be confused with another recent strain being sold on the seedbank market as Jalalabad Star (other strain has no connection to the original ExSitu genetic / other strain was collected in 2019 which is after genetic erosion of local landraces started polluting local landrace populations with imported hybridized genetics.. #EducateYourself #JustSayKnow )
Grower reviews/feedback:
“Very interesting structure and very different than the other afghan varieties. Much love.”
“Jalalabad Star is tall and narrow, I grew her from seed. She is very peppery acrid spicy when I ruffle her leaves. JS, or #1 is an interesting pungent plant with greasy buds that have a yellowish tinge to them. Very fuelly smell with some sweetness as well when she is starting to ripen.”
“Vintage genetics Jalalabad Star. She smells of honey fuel and a little skunk. The high is transcendental and euphoric.”
“Jalalabad Star, really unique line, pretty quick indoors, reasonably solid no real heavy intersex traits, beautiful colors, lots of resin, wild smells that came on at the end. May try some tonight. Many thanks and blessings.”
“Jalalabad Star, germination was good, surprised by the width of the leaves. I like what I see! The Jalalabad Star came out very nice. The smell is perfumey fuely and the high is euphoric very nice indeed. It’s a nice cultivar and needs to be grown again. Thank you for the opportunity to grow it.”
“Enjoying the Jalalabad Star: Frosty! Exotic in taste and high. Refreshing to say the least. Looks nice. Fat flowers of dank. Very refreshing change from all the reshuffled gene pools that dominate US marketplace. Appreciate any other gear. Cheers!”
“The frostiest seedlings I have had in a very long time”
